Juniper~ is one of the the strongest Purifiers of old energies used in so many cultures and traditions- the Sumerians, Greeks, Native Americans, and many more. In Native American Smudging ritual, Juniper is used to clear away harmful energies from self and home, and create, what feels to me like a "clean slate" ready to be filled with goodness. Juniper Clears, Cleanses and carries a vibrant, invigorating scent and energy of the alpine CA Coastal Mountains where this harvest comes from.
*Includes an Obsidian Arrowhead. (Purifying; absorbs negativity)

"SMUDGING": The once Native Peoples practice of burning sage/herbs for Cleansing, Purifying, and making ready for ceremony; using smoke to cleanse one’s self, space, and energy; practiced by tribes across North, Central, and South America since the dawn of humans.
*Juniper is sacred in part, because traditionally, one climbs to find it. In high places, Juniper hugs ridges and slopes of chalk down and limestone ledges. This act of 'growing close to the Heavens' has given Juniper an exalted place among sacred herbs and sages. Juniper has been historically used in rituals practiced by many peoples, across every continents where it grows, and over many cultures and faiths. (Read more history below).
*NOTE: Dried Juniper crumbles easily- a bowl, censor, or shell is highly recommended when burning Juniper bundles.

**HISTORY & LORE** Juniper Traditional Uses:
Early Greek myths acknowledge the Spirit of Artemis inhabiting Juniper, used as a favored offering at shrines and oracles. Lithuanians tell 10th century myths referencing the sacred qualities of Juniper throughout their forests. The Chinese today use the Juniper berry to purify the air of hospital and sick rooms. Many North American Native Tribes used Juniper in banishing, purging, prayer, and protection rituals. Juniper plant and berries are commonly carried in medicine and possibles pouches. Branches are stored with sacred supplies and objects.
** CURRENT USES** Juniper
**All herbs and Sages are ideal for cleansing your environment and starting anew. Great for house blessings, new job, starting mentally, emotionally, and spiritually fresh. Bless yourself, each other, and your living/working spaces weekly or daily as needed.
**JUNIPER: Use to create Sacred Space, add blessings and protection. Some Elders recommend using the Cedar and Juniper before bedtime to improve the quality of dreams.
** JUNIPER is considered stronger, more concentrated medicine than the Sages: start small with both Cedar and Juniper because a little goes a long way with many blessings.
**OBSIDIAN**
Obsidian is a very sacred stone to tribes and was commonly used by Western North American Bands. Said to be a quick-acting, and strong stone crystal that absorbs negativity from the environment, (making it a good companion with your Juniper/Cedar; it will add extra earth power to your ceremony.) Said to instantly soothe and calm a worried mind, Obsidian is a great grounding stone for both mind and heart. A special stone for meditation. Should be cleansed often under running water.
**The ARROWHEAD** is an ancient symbol reminding us of the Old World of the Americas. An important symbol to tribes, it is "a symbol for prayer...the shape of thought traveling to the divine" (Gerald Hausman). Traditionally interpreted on rock walls as resources, success in the hunt; focus, alertness. In current belief, the arrowhead signifies resourcefulness, our connection to all Creatures, and success in the highest spiritual endeavors.
** SMUDGING DIRECTIONS** Open a window first for air flow. Light the bundle tip, blow out flame. Keeping your sage bundle in shell or bowl, begin to fan smoke toward the heart first with your hand or a feather, and then over the head and all around the body to cleanse and clear the space around you. Ritually bless yourself, each other, and your living/working spaces and tools. Adding your strong intentions intensifies your offering. Extinguish the bundle ember once your blessing ritual is finished- by passing the bundle tip under running water. Prop up bundle in a bowl to dry, and it will be ready for your next cleansing ritual! Smudge as often as you feel a desire to begin, renew, and feel blessings.
**PLEASE** use care when burning your herb bundles** Do not leave a burning smudge wand unattended. Take extra care around children and pets. When finished burning, run the tip under running water to make sure the burning ember inside is fully extinguished. Hang it to dry, or just prop up in your bowl, for your next use. These herbs are not safe for consumption. Only use for sachets, or burning as incense.
