Purifying herb bundles are commonly used in ceremony to cleanse ourselves and surroundings of old and unwelcome energies before beginning ceremony. Purifying herbs and evergreens like Cedar and Juniper move energy, clear out stagnant air, and open the door for blessings with the Sages and lighter Plant Spirits.

1- Agate arrowhead (~1"). Colors will vary from dark to light. Agate is a balancing stone- removes indecision. Arrowhead~ symbol of resourcefulness, clarity, spiritual success. Hand-carved copy of the ancient form~ from India.

** Current and Traditional Uses**
All herbs and Sages are ideal for cleansing your environment and starting anew. Great for house blessings, new job, starting mentally, emotionally, and spiritually fresh. Bless yourself, each other, and your living/working spaces weekly or daily as needed.
**CA White Sage** a refreshing Plant Spirit to balance one's space/mind. Has large, grey-green, wide leaves, this is a sweeter sage than the Plains varieties; it is a recommended to burn White Sages AFTER cedar and juniper in your smudging ritual: it lightens the air, inviting the good to fill your space. You can use it daily as needed. Great before starting new projects.
**Juniper and Cedar: The stronger purifying herbs (and scents) used to clear unwanted energies, and provide protection. Also used for dreamwork. Considered stronger medicine than the Sages, I recommend starting small with the evergreen herbs (they are more concentrated: a little goes a long way). Burn them separately and see which ones speak to you. Some Elders recommend using the combination before bedtime to improve the quality of dreams.
**Cedar is used in ceremony as a bridge between earth and heaven. It carries prayers and intentions in its smoke to Creator. Used to fend off illness, and to carry prayers. Used after illness, or conflict of any kind. Both Juniper/Cedar are good Spirits to use for added protection: I have crumbled them up dry and spread them outside over large areas.
NOTE: Because dry Juniper and Cedar crumble easily, be sure to burn them in your pot, censor, or shell to catch embers.
** Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris- commonly called "black Sage", but not a true sage. It is called by various names- St. John's Wort). It is beautiful- with silvery green leaves on one side, and dark, forest green on the other. Mugwort has a long history of use among indigenous cultures of all directions. Overall, it clears negative energies, gives protection, and induces dreaming. Lakota tribes believe Mugwort wards off all evil spirits. It is used for magic in Wiccan traditions. Many traditions use it for dream work. (Note: this herb is for burning only: not to be ingested. AVOID During Pregnancy).
(I put the name "black sage" in quotes because true black sage is actually a Salvia (Salvia mellifera- Black Hummingbird sage used by West Coast tribes in ceremony; it is an altogether different Plant Spirit with a different energy from Mugwort. Both have their uses.)
***SMUDGING: Herbs are used individually or in combination with other herbs in prayer, before and during ceremonies, before important life events, and journeys. Herbs are burned to generate smoke to wash through and over ourselves; to embellish one's scent, to add Plant Spirits to our invocations, and carry prayers Skyward. Feather fans increase the blessings by adding air and blessings from the Winged Ones- to carry our prayers and intentions further across dimensions.
**Each bundle is harvested in traditional ways, with respect, in small sustainable batches- good for the Plants. Each bundle is packaged separately to keep scents distinct and fresh.

Do not leave a burning smudge wand unattended. Take extra care around children and pets. When finished burning, run the tip under running water to make sure the burning ember inside is fully extinguished. Hang it to dry for your next use.
