These 4 Plant Spirits carry a balance of male and female energies, and elemental blessings from mountains, deserts, and coastal lands where they are gathered~ in California, New Mexico, and Arizona.
While most think of Saging or "Smudging" (cleansing with Sacred plants and their Smoke) for the practice of cleansing one's space~ say for a House Blessing. But there are many reasons to honor with sacred sages. One of our favorites is to simply say 'Thank You'; as an Offering when the day begins, when we want to connect, and when we feel blessed and want to share the blessings with others.
*Ofrenda is a special grouping of Plant Spirits most used in Offering and Gratitude practice; Appreciation for a new day, for sun/air/water/ and the earth supporting us; for gifts of the 4-5 and 7 Directions.
*Smudging with sacred herbs/Smoke as an Offering this way creates sacred space and an open heart. Cedar, purifies and helps carry our prayers/wishes further, helping us present a pure offering. Sages traditionally fill our spaces with goodness and invite blessings. Together, these Ofrenda sages/herbs help us honor the Sacred in and around us, while we offer our best for the journey ahead.

**"What is SMUDGING?** The First Peoples practice of burning sage/herbs for Blessing, offering, and creating Sacred Space; using smoke from Sacred Plants/herbs- to cleanse oneself, space, and energy in gratitude and prayer; practiced by by tribes across North, Central, and South America for centuries.
**USES** For all Sages, Evergreens, and herbs:
~House Blessing/ Cleansing to purify oneself and and surroundings of negativity and unwelcome energies.
~ Move stagnant air so that we can Renew and breathe a fresh start.
~ Smudge before and after guests leave to move energies. If guests are open//familiar with the ritual of smudging, it is traditional to smudge guests before they travel on- with prayers for safe travels.
~ Smudging is also done before and after big projects, again in gratitude.
~ Smudge after conflict; to ask forgiveness.

Traditional Uses:
**CA White Sage** a refreshing Plant Spirit used to balance one's space and mind. It has large, grey-green, wide leaves, and an earthy, musky-sweet scent. White Sages are commonly burned After Cedar/Juniper in smudging rituals; Evergreens clear out/cleanse; Sages invite new energies. White sage lightens the air after deep cleansing, lends balance, and invites goodness and blessings to fill your space and heart. You can offer it daily as needed.
**CEDAR: ~ Cedar is a strong Purifier: It clears one's space and energy of harmful or unwelcome negativity. It has an invigorating scent that replaces old energies.
~ CEDAR SPIRIT: carries your intentions and prayers in its smoke, to the Sky and Heavens.
~ Cedar is often used to celebrate all things new: new job, new baby, new home. Also to re-claim one's space as new, and for starting new projects.
~ Cedar Spirit offers protection: I offer it for blessings before leaving on a journey, and to bless travelers.
* Silver Prairie/Dakota Sacred Sage (also called White Prairie sage, Native Wormwood, Silver Sage): Artemisia ludoviciana, is a well known high-desert, light-burning sage, widely grown and used across the Plains region of North America. A refreshing sage with an almost minty scent, Dakota Sage is ideal to offer for clearing, and cleansing, and inviting- before new endeavors.
* Feather Sage also called Sweet Sage and Winterfat, is common across the arid deserts of Western North America. This is another lightly scented, sweeter, light burning sage with a number of health benefits, used widely as a Sacred Sage among Yaqui, Havauspi, Navajo, Tewa, Goshute, and Hopi tribes and others across the Southwestern US. This is a favorite sage used for cleansing, balancing, adding sweetness, and giving thanks.

Do not leave a burning smudge wand unattended. Take extra care around children and pets. When finished burning, run the tip under running water to make sure the ember inside is fully extinguished. Hang it to dry for your next use.
